Meet Me at The Niche.
Everyone’s gotta eat, and Meals and Wheels makes sure those who can’t do their own cooking can get the nourishment they need to stay happy and healthy at home. Meals on Wheels has been part of the Boulder community since 1969 and serves about 250 residents every day! I’m so proud to be part of the cashiering team at The Niche Market, a mini grocery/convenience store on-site at Meals on Wheels HQ. All proceeds from the store go straight back to this incredible nonprofit and — are you listening Boulderites? — it’s open to the public.

Goodness That Does Good
Their website explains it best: “We provide healthy and high-quality meals to people who truly need them. We serve the lonely, isolated, often invisible members of our community who are not able to shop for or prepare their own meals. Our clients are able to maintain health longer, age in place in their own homes and enjoy improved quality of life, independence and dignity.”
Volunteer food packers and drivers work to deliver tasty meals and a daily well-being check to customers, while other folks like me donate time by working at the market. Many of the items we sell at The Niche are made in-house with care, like their famous quiches, handcrafted fruit pies, soul-warming soups and even sandwiches and salads for the lunch crowd. There is also a great selection fresh bread and pastries from Breadworks, plus bagels and muffins from Moe’s.
The Niche Knows What’s Hot.
Another reason to shop here? (Buckle up for some shameless client promotion.) This little shop-spot stocks a full selection of pantry staples, convenience items, refreshing beverages, snacks, ice cream and more. Plus, I was pleased as pie to see some of my own clients on the shelf, including Honey Bunchies, Crunchsters, and Veggie-Go’s by Wildmade.
The Niche’s grocery managers are heavy hitters in the local market, and they’ve done an outstanding job supporting local companies and stocking the highest quality products from brands of all sizes. You’ll find Bobo’s next to Clif Bar, Seaweed Bath Company next to Neosporin and Noosa next to Dannon. It’s like the United Colors of Grocery Benetton in here!
Come See Us.
The Niche Market is conveniently located at the intersection of Diagonal Highway and 47th St. in Boulder. Drop by to pick up a quiche for family brunch, a bag of chips for the big game or a tasty kombucha for…anytime. I’m behind the counter on Thursday afternoons, and I hope you’ll stop by to say “Hi.”
Remember, every penny spent at The Niche goes straight back to feeding our community. Meals on Wheels customers pay on a sliding scale, which means regardless of age or income, everyone can have the warmth of a home-cooked meal. So, when you shop at The Niche, you get the goods you need while also giving back. And it doesn’t get much better than that.
