13 Years in Business. 1 Year in the Saddle.
I never thought I would own and operate a company. Truly. When people ask me for advice about breaking off on your own and consulting, I tell them the truth: for me, it was an accident. I’m not totally convinced (or even moderately assured) that I would have had the courage to leave the life of an employee and become my own boss. But 13 years later, here I am.
So, HAPPY 13th ANNIVERSARY TO ME AND EBB COPYWRITING + CREATIVE!
I wanted to commemorate this month not with a post not about copywriting, branding and the like—you see enough of that. But about my side hustle. That’s right party people, I’m also celebrating my 1 year anniversary as an indoor cycling instructor at Flow Fitness. In other words, I’ve been spinning for a year, and it’s what keeps me grounded.

Being “The Best” Isn’t for Everyone.
This new side gig has taught me so much. About creating community. About “performing” in a way that inspires a room full of people. About music and playlists and BPMs and good form on the bike. And most of all, about learning and improving.
Because straight up: cycling is not the professional skill in which I excel. Not by a long shot. It’s not the skill(s) I’ve been working to hone for nearly 20 years in the branding business. But when I auditioned to coach, I dove headfirst into my own unknown potential. I mean, hell, I’ve been a distance runner since I was a kid, and I NEVER in a million years pictured myself as a cycling coach. Sometimes I don’t even know who I am anymore . But I think that’s been the best part: evolving into a different version of myself.
Being open to change.
Being excited to do something so new have indefinite room to grow.
Listening, learning and taking constructive criticism with grace to uncover who I am as a coach.
Admiring others and celebrating, supporting and championing their greatness instead of comparing myself to them.
Always getting better, and being OK with not being the best as long as I’m having fun.

I want to thank everyone who I have the pleasure to interact with in both of my professional worlds. THANK YOU to my friends, family, clients, colleagues and collaborators for making me feel like the luckiest writer on earth. Your talents know no bounds, and I hope I get to keep learning from you for another 13 years.
And THANK YOU to my Flow Fitness fam for welcoming me to the team. I’ve loved being an employee again for the first time since 2011. Here’s to many more rides, miles, leaderboard challenges, “beasts” (IYKYK) and moments of suspended reality spent sweating our asses off under the LED lights.
If you’re ever in Seattle, come ride with me Monday nights at 4:30pm and Tuesday mornings at 6:15am. Use the code FLOWWITHERINB for your first class on me!
